Appearance and reading themes

Understand the colors used for the app, reading content, highlights, and exported images.

Mac app appearance

In Appearance settings, choose System, Lilac Mist, or Graphite Dark. Your choice is saved and applies to the sidebar, lists, notes, and other app views.

The app theme changes colors, without changing how content is arranged or how actions work.

Separate reading settings

Adjust the reader's content theme, font, and layout in reading settings. The content theme can differ from the app's appearance; the selection toolbar and notes sidebar still follow the app theme.

Your highlights, tag colors, website covers, and original images aren't recolored by the app theme.

Shared images have their own templates

The note-sharing panel follows the app's appearance, while exported images use your chosen White, Warm Paper, Midnight, or Mist template. Changing the app theme doesn't switch the export template.

On iOS, use the appearance and reading settings available in your version. Their location may differ from Mac.
