POCKETIFY GUIDE / 07

Let external AI find content through MCP

Connect Codex, Cursor, or Claude Code on the same Mac.

What MCP does here

Pocketify's MCP service lets external tools search saved content, read available text and reading notes, and retrieve source references on your Mac.

It doesn't require enabling the built-in Pi or adding a model key in Pocketify. The external AI tool handles its own account, models, and usage charges.

Copy the current connection settings from the app

  1. Open MCP in the Mac sidebar and follow the prompts to start the service.
  2. Choose your client, such as Codex, Cursor, or Claude Code.
  3. Copy the configuration generated for the current service and add it to the client as instructed in the panel.
  4. Return to Pocketify to check index status and coverage, then ask the external tool to find something you've saved.

Search coverage and limits

Search uses content synced to and readable on the current Mac. Text that hasn't been downloaded, extracted, or indexed isn't searchable. Archived items and unauthorized private content are outside the usual scope.

Images can be searched using locally extracted dominant colors and OCR clues; external tools can read previews as needed. This isn't comprehensive semantic analysis of all images, audio, and video.

When changes are proposed

For write proposals, first enable the relevant permission in MCP, then approve each item in Pocketify. An external tool's suggestion doesn't mean your content has been changed.

Start with read-only searches to understand source references and index coverage before allowing changes that require confirmation.
